The Board of Directors of the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism, chaired by the vice-president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, after the delegation of the counselor Ángel Vázquez, has given the green light to the update of tariffs and rules for the application of private access prices, which will come into effect on January 1, 2026.

This approval means, de facto, the activation of Retorna, an innovative management fund with a specific purpose designed by the MET, which will allow 5 euros from each general adult ticket and 2.5 euros from each child ticket to be allocated to Montañas del Fuego to finance strategic projects of island interest.

"Retorna transforms the benefits generated by our activity into quality of life for Lanzarote and its people through the implementation of finalist projects linked to energy, water, mobility, and talent," stated the Entity's counselor, Ángel Vázquez. "Furthermore, it promotes a change in the perception of the tourist, moving from being a consumer of resources to a generator of them."Retorna is a program that was created after analyzing the evolution of tariffs in recent years and projecting different future scenarios. It proposes a model aimed at generating greater resources to undertake initiatives and projects with socioeconomic impact. "We are facing a decisive step in the transformation of the tourism model, the first program in the Canary Islands that guarantees that a portion of the value generated by tourism will revert directly, structurally, and for a specific purpose to the island."

A projection based on registered visits in 2024 anticipates equipping this management fund with €3.28 million during 2026. "Town councils, tourism operators, and the resident population will benefit from an innovative proposal that will make Lanzarote a better place to live and a more attractive, modern, capable, and sustainable destination."

In this first phase, Retorna begins to materialize through concrete measures aligned with the aforementioned axes. Thus, in the field of energy, it promotes generation projects through photovoltaic installations aimed at producing direct energy savings for citizens, while simultaneously contributing to the decongestion of the electrical grid and reinforcing Lanzarote's position as a tourist destination committed to sustainability. Complementarily, in the talent axis, Retorna activates training scholarships aimed at facilitating access to better professional opportunities, improving employability, and fostering a higher quality of life, linking the return of tourism value to the development of the people who sustain the territory.

The report on Retorna's annual revenue and the progress of linked projects will be presented at the Board of Directors meeting where the accounts for each fiscal year are approved

More on the rate update

"With the update approved today, we dignify the spaces created by César Manrique, improve Lanzarote's positioning and competitiveness against similar destinations, and align ourselves with the Entity's Statutes by allocating resources to transformative measures that contribute to improving the well-being and quality of life of the island's citizens," explained Vázquez.

The price update will not affect the island's resident population, nor will it affect the restaurant's profit and loss statement.
