The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the public company Grafcan, has updated the historical orthophoto service thanks to the incorporation of a new image of the island of Lanzarote from 1977. The orthophoto was made from an analog black and white flight.

The area's councilor, José Antonio Valbuena, pointed out that this "valuable" snapshot joins others already taken on different islands of the archipelago, which can be accessed through the viewer, accessing the specific section of 'Historical'.

The 1977 analog flight was ceded by the Documentary Fund of the Association of Island Councils of the Province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

An orthophoto is a geometrically corrected aerial photograph that can be used to make real measurements. This is because it is an accurate representation of the earth's surface, in which the distortions inherent in aerial images have been rectified.

The main exponent of the strategy of dissemination of geographic and territorial information of the islands is SITCAN, which includes services and products on territorial information that are accessed through its various web platforms, among which are the Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Canary Islands (https://www.idecanarias.es), the Territorial Information Sales and Download Service (http://tiendavirtual.grafcan.es) or the Open Data Portal (https://opendata.sitcan.es).
