Lanzarote Airport has set itself the goal of promoting the new General Aviation facility; a flight format that includes sports and private aviation. To this end, since last March, the date of the inauguration of this terminal, it has been carrying out different activities to attract the attention of this new type of pilots who, according to Juan Parrilla, head of the facility, can bring to the Island a "quality tourism by ensuring a regular line of flights".

One of these activities took place last Friday, with the arrival of members of the Mannheim Aeroclub at Guacimeta Airport. Initially, the arrival of three small planes was expected but due to technical problems, according to the organization, only one unit reached the land of the rabbits. The airplane was piloted by Markus Vogt and Gaby Brix, both members of the Manhheim Aeroclub, who after greeting the numerous students of the Lanzair Pilot School and private aviation pilots from Tenerife and Gran Canaria, gave a talk transmitting the experience of the flight, which had stopovers in France, the peninsular territory and Morocco. A presentation that in the opinion of the person in charge was "very interesting because it explained all the vicissitudes of the flight" to the future pilots of the Island.

First commercial flight

The initiative is part of the events that the Airport is celebrating on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the first commercial flight to Lanzarote. To celebrate it, in addition to the meeting with the members of the German aviation school, on Sunday there was an open day in which an aeromodelling exhibition was held, a demonstration of emergency systems by the airport fire brigade, as well as an exhibition of the activities of the hawks that watch over the fauna in the airport's surroundings.

Through these initiatives, especially the promotion of the new facilities, Lanzarote airport wants to acquire "international renown" and have "positive consequences", which according to Parrilla can be specified in "the promotion of quality tourism and promote a regular line" that connects, through private aviation, the aerodrome of Manhheim with that of Guacimeta.

Another aspect that Parrilla highlights is the "growth that Lanzarote airport can have in the European market", thanks to the publication of articles by these German pilots in the important forum of Hamburg airport; a guide written by the pilots who rate their experiences in the main airports of the world, and on whose website, according to Parrilla, they classify Lanzarote as "a five-star airport in terms of services and benefits".
