Fourteen restaurants and tapas bars located in the center of Tías and Puerto del Carmen will participate in the Tuna Gastronomic Week organized by the Tías City Council to support the primary sector of the island and the Canary Islands. Between October 1 and 7, these establishments will offer different tapas and gastronomic dishes with tuna as culinary protagonists.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and the deputy mayor and councilor for Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, presented this Thursday at a press conference the Gastronomic Week in the municipality of Tías dedicated in this first edition to tuna. Under the slogan The Flavor of Tradition, a total of fourteen hotel establishments have specially prepared some tapas or dishes containing the tuna family as the main element in their menu.

The mayor of Tías said in the presentation, which took place in the El Fondeadero Civic Center and was attended by several managers of the restaurants and bars participating in the Gastronomic Week, that this initiative is in line with the work and support for the primary sector, and especially the fishing sector, to promote the marketing of their catches at sea.

There will be other actions to support products from the fields of Lanzarote

Along the same lines, the deputy mayor and councilor for Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, stated, recalling that these dates of the week coincide with the tuna harvest, "where our fishermen from La Tiñosa are promoting the capture of skipjack tuna, common in the waters that bathe Lanzarote." The Councilor for Tourism highlighted that this first edition of the Gastronomic Week is dedicated to fish, although they intend to carry out new actions to support the consumption of products from the fields of Lanzarote in the hotel sector of Lanzarote.

The Department of Tourism of the Tías City Council has created special posters that are located in all the hotel establishments that participate in this week as an identifying element so that residents and tourists can know in advance the bars and restaurants that offer tuna on these dates.

According to the City Council, the Tourism offices in the municipality of Tías are also "carrying out a promotional task with 'word of mouth' to spread among visitors the list of restaurants attached to the Week of the Flavor of Tradition of Tías." The City Council is promoting a informative campaign where, with a leaflet, the dishes, prices and names of the restaurants participating in this first edition are highlighted.

They hope that more establishments will join in future editions

In his speech, the Councilor for Tourism encouraged more establishments to join in future editions in their gastronomic offer for these weeks of support for the primary sector.

Both the mayor and the Councilor for Tourism highlighted at the press conference that with these activities, which have the support of local restaurateurs, they intend that tourists not only visit the restaurants of Puerto del Carmen but also travel to the center of Tías, "so that the entire hotel sector in the municipality benefits from the tourism that visits us."

The restaurants that participate in this Gastronomic Week are Atlántico Lounge, Ca' Marcos, El Cangrejo Rojo, Casa Roja, Casa Kike, El Pueblo, Jimmy's Bar, El Toro, La Cañada, La Chalana, La Marisma, La Posada, La Veleta and Taberna de Nino.
