Within the extensive program of events to be held on the occasion of the festivities in honor of San Bartolomé, the Bodeguita of Casa Cerdeña hosted this Thursday the presentation of the book "The White Camel", whose author is the resident of San Bartolomé Fefo García.

The event began at 8:00 p.m. with the presentation by Felix Hormiga, who was in charge of writing the prologue to this book. Félix Hormiga portrayed the author, José García Corujo, popularly known as Fefo García, and recounted how they met when they were both very young, driven by the popular culture of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands in general.

Fefo García was born in San Bartolomé de Ajei, the son of farmers. A peasant with a strong connection to social life through traditional music, from a very early age he became a member of the rondalla of San Bartolomé and later of the Los Campesinos folk group.

Musician, writer and potter

Storyteller, with a verb devoid of artifice and a present freshness of popular language, he also practices the trade of potter. His clay manufacture of everyday and domestic utensils, in the shape and likeness of pre-colonial models, is done exclusively with his hands, dispensing with molds and lathe, thus giving a timeless appearance to his creations.

In this book, presented in pocket format, Fefo tells the story of an open secret that happened to him more than 50 years ago, with a camel that he was afraid of until that day, due to the animal's behavior.

Many neighbors and friends came to the Bodeguita of Casa Cerdeña to listen to some of the experiences that occurred with said camel, but Fefo left them all with the question, so that they could take the book home.

Before the end of the event, Fefo presented those present with an isa entitled "Isa de la Parida". Immediately afterwards, the Councilor for Festivities, Áurea Mauri, presented him with a Canarian pintadera. Afterwards, the book was sold and copies were signed. For those who could not attend the presentation and want to get the book, it will be on sale in the island's bookstores.
