On Tuesday night, the second phase of the XXVI Arrecife Carnival Murgas Contest was held, a phase starring the female murgas and in which a total of six groups participated. Los Titi Roys, the murga that opened the second phase, was the only male group that performed on Tuesday night at the Arrecife Fairgrounds. The criticisms are increasing, with Víctor Sanginés, Councilor for Festivities, being the main target of the murgueros' lyrics. A second phase in which a notable improvement of the female murgas could be appreciated, setting the bar very high and, above all, complicating the jury's decision.
Titi Roys
Design: "Political Clown and whoever wants to take it, take it", designed by Rubén Martín
1st Song: "I'm sorry, but I was born to criticize"
2nd Song: "In search of a perfect lyric"
The second phase of the Arrecife Carnival Murgas Contest started with great force, with the Titi Roys being in charge of performing first. During their presentation, they made a small tribute to Juan Medina, the Charlot of Lanzarote. Between song and song, the Titi Roys demanded the presence of an interpreter of sign language and that those people with hearing problems can not only enjoy the contest during the final on Friday.
In the first song, entitled "I'm sorry, but I was born to criticize", the Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, Víctor Sanginés, was the chosen target and was criticized for the subsidies, the stage or his way of dressing. They recommended the councilor to pack his bags and leave, assuring that no murga can stand him. The performance of the Titi Roys went from more to less and in the second song they parodied being students of a zumba class. Much criticism had each of the lyrics of the murga that came from the neighborhood of Titerroy.
Ladys Golosina
Design: "Beethoven's muses arrive at Carnival", designed by Julián Artiles
1st Song: "Criticizing a little, in our own way at Carnival"
2nd Song: "Licensed to criticize"
From the town of Tahíche came the 40 members of the Ladys Golosina, who are celebrating twelve years at the Arrecife Carnival. They wore the fantasy "Beethoven's muses arrive at Carnival", and during their presentation they demanded that Víctor Sanginés should not only visit the murgas of Arrecife.
In their first song, "Criticizing a little of everything in our own way at Carnival", the target of their criticisms was the crisis and corruption, among other issues. And in the second song, "Licensed to criticize", they became journalists with a license to criticize everything they see wrong. The management of Inalsa or the failure of the jury last year, were part of the lyrics of these improvised journalists.
Las Atrevidas
Design: "I don't know why they say I'm like a watering can", designed by Ángel Ramos
1st Song: "Crisis, who said crisis, in bad weather, take out the umbrella"
2nd Song: "The biggest Olympiad in the World"
With a total of 31 members, the members of Las Atrevidas were presented on the stage of the Fairgrounds. Their design "I don't know why they say I'm like a watering can", was very popular with the numerous public present in the stands. Dressed as caterpillars, plants and scarecrows, they are positioned among the favorites to fight for the Design and Fantasy awards.
In the first song, Las Atrevidas had as their central theme the crisis and how badly the most disadvantaged social classes are having it. And in the second song of the night, "The biggest Olympiad in the World", they set up their own Olympiad, referring to the allegory of the Arrecife Carnival in this year 2014.
Rebuscadas
Design: "Searching, searching I found and I stayed as a general"
1st Song: "We are not stupid and we sing what we see"
2nd Song: "The themes of my bottle"
In their first participation in the Arrecife Carnival, Rebuscadas took to the stage with great force and wanting to show that the months of rehearsal have served to grow as a murga. Rebuscadas have a total of 42 members.
In the first song, "We are not stupid and we sing what we see", they reviewed issues such as pedophilia, corruption or unsolved crimes that exist in Lanzarote today. More lively was the second song of Rebuscadas, making a fun parody of such common themes as diets or Councilor Víctor Sanginés.
Las Tunantonas
Design: "Beautiful and flirty, Las Tunantonas are presented", designed by Manuel Camejo
1st Song: "Let's criticize lies tra la ra"
2nd Song: "And what company are you from?"
Other of the debuting murgas in the Arrecife Carnival are Las Tunantonas, a group that comes from the municipality of Tinajo, composed of a total of 28 people. They took to the stage with a design by Manuel Camejo, which was entitled "Beautiful and flirty, Las Tunantonas are presented". This is another of the designs to take into account for the final awards.
In their murga debut, they performed the song "Let's criticize lies tra la ra", in which they reviewed issues such as politics, "thieving" politicians or the Minister José Manuel Soria himself. And in the second song, "And what company are you from?", they made a parody of mobile phone companies, and the multitude of calls they make to the customer with better offers than the competition.
Las Inadaptadas
Design: "One more clown, surely it doesn't show", designed by the murga itself.
1st Song: "Spain is doing very well, we keep moving forward"
2nd Song: "I had to take a jump to be able to reach the Olympics, sha sha sha"
Las Inadaptadas was one of the most numerous murgas of the second phase, with a total of 58 members. They managed to win over the public that was waiting in the stands to enjoy the last performance of the night.
In the first song entitled "Spain is doing very well, we keep moving forward", they took a tour of all those people who they consider corrupt in our country. And in the second song they became a chirigota, starring in a fun parody, which brought a smile to the audience. In the parody was also the protagonist our colleague from La Voz de Lanzarote, Sergio Betancort, who was shown taking pictures of the Councilor for Festivities, while putting the band to Miss Beautiful Body. Las Inadaptadas finished their performance with their usual "Traveling by train", getting the public to participate in the farewell.
