A total of 200 native plants will adorn the Parque de Los Luchadores in Altavista, and those responsible for placing them are the children and elderly of the area. The Councilor for Neighborhoods, Parks and Gardens of Arrecife, Antonio Machín, the Councilor for Human Resources, Luisa Blanco, and the Councilor for Social Affairs, Emilia Perdomo, visited the area this Thursday to kick off this project, carried out in collaboration with the Escuela Taller entorno Urbano y Medio Ambiente.

This didactic activity will try to raise awareness among the little ones about the importance of nature and the environment. "Our little ones will know how important it is to live with a cared and clean environment and they will be able to maintain the gardens they have planted," they point out from the City Council, which hopes that if the children feel responsible for their planting, they will also be able to "educate the elders in the care that our ecosystem deserves."

But that is not the only objective of this initiative. "With this campaign that begins in the Altavista neighborhood, apart from giving the gardens a fresher and more renewed look, we try to improve the image with new native species, making all the children and adults who want to attend this activity participate."

The Councilor for Neighborhoods, Parks and Gardens, Antonio Machín, who was satisfied with the result of this day, highlighted that Aurelia, a resident of the area, in addition to contributing her grain of sand to the planting, commented that she herself would take care of, water with rainwater from her cistern and prune this plant. "With this example, this Council wants to convey that the gardens, the environment and the equipment that make it up are a common belonging of all citizens. So if all or a majority of us had the same vision as this lady, our parks and gardens would be a source of pride for all of us and the foreign population that passes through our neighborhoods."
