The Cabildo of Lanzarote will name Sebastiana Perera, popularly known as Chana Perera, as Favorite Daughter of the island in the next island plenary session.
A native of Haría, Chana Perera was the first female president of the Island Council of Lanzarote, a position she held for a short period of time. In addition, she studied Teaching and was director of the Las Mercedes de Mala Infant and Primary Education School.
"Thanks to the corporation. The work has not been mine alone, but of a group of people and I thank those people who have worked with me," Perera says in statements to La Voz.
Chana Perera is also known for her work at the head of the Milana Association, a cultural, social, heritage and agricultural association on the island of Lanzarote.
