A few minutes after 9:00 p.m., the counselor of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, José Juan Lorenzo, welcomed the attendees to the Auditorium of Jameos del Agua and thanked the "transcendental" role played by the Corujo family, "especially Pancho and Ciro, authentic engines of this magical night" and, on behalf of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and its president, Pedro San Ginés, "the generosity of Celso Albelo, Jorge de León and Pancho Corujo, because without it this dream would not have been possible." Lorenzo concluded by preparing those present to experience "a unique night, in a unique space."
And it certainly was. What transpired in the next hour and a half, almost two, in the Auditorium of Jameos del Agua is something that the people who filled the venue yesterday will take time to forget. Celso Albelo, Jorge de León and Pancho Corujo, accompanied on the piano by Juan Francisco Parra, provided an unforgettable night of voice, warmth, temperance and harmony. As soon as they gave a spectacular interpretation of the already immortal Nessun Dorma (Turandot, G. Puccini), they surprised the attendees by breaking out with a piece outside the program with Pancho Corujo on our very own Canarian timple.
Rubén Mayor, musicologist and professor at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria who came specifically for the Auditorium event, considered that what happened in Jameos "has been a jewel. Never in history have three tenors from the same region, with these trajectories, who respect each other and are friends, coincided, a fundamental circumstance since there was enormous complicity throughout the show. What we saw is a concert of astral category among friends," Mayor remarked, who recalled that "they had been squaring agendas for years so that this concert could become a reality." Mayor reveals that "Celso Albelo represents the technique in the voice that runs with insulting naturalness, that breaks the parameters and reaches the heart. Pancho Corujo is the voice of gallant phrasing, the wisdom of popular song taken to universal lyricism and the gift of cuddling in the pianissimi. Jorge de León, is, for his part, the best tenor voice of his tessitura in active, with the graceful swagger that is needed, excellence in tuning and subtleties in each phrase. We can only look very high, to the distant firmament, with these three tenors," he concluded. Regarding the venue, the musicologist pointed out "it is incredible, unique and spectacular. In fact, Jorge de León and Celso Albelo agreed in pointing out that this is the most beautiful auditorium in which they have sung."
"First it was Las Manos. Now Las Voces. The Centers have done it again" was heard among the public once the show was over. "Sublime. My hands hurt from applauding so much" confessed a second spectator. "Magnificent and spectacular" said a third. The truth is that the Lyric Gala of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote exceeded all expectations and made for an unforgettable night.
