This Thursday Yaiza was filled with humor with the Playa Blanca Carnival. The celebration mixed the Canarian and Cadiz cultural expressions, on the night of murga and chirigotas that opens the door to a weekend of parties in the south of Lanzarote. “Our Carnival is a generous invitation to all audiences and tastes with the intention of having fun and having a great time with the people we love, and here is hospitable Playa Blanca to act as host”, says the Councilor for Celebrations, Javier Camacho.
The members of the murga Los Simplones, winner of the Lanzarote murga contest, broke the ice with their "sharp" lyrics about the reality of Lanzarote, touching on some of the characters in the island's political class, accompanying their interpretation with music, the Yaiza City Council issued in a statement.
The Consistory affirms that this murga is very loved in Yaiza and always participates in the Playa Blanca Carnival, since "it has a strong emotional bond" with Yaiza because one of its great animators, Fran Umpiérrez, known as "Potala", was from the municipality. The murga remembered him by offering him an emotional tribute after his death.
After the Los Simplones show, La Chirichota took the stage, a group of Canarian creators directed by Víctor Lemes, who debuted in Playa Blanca presenting the comic – musical performance ‘The classics return’, where each of its seven members played a character from the history of classical music, remaking lyrics of popular songs as a "frank and direct" criticism of musical products of "dubious artistic level", the City Council continued.
"It is a reflection aloud that, as it is very critical of the superficial, it praises extraordinary and universal groups and singer-songwriters of different genres and nationalities", they point out from the consistory.
The closing was done by a guest group from Cádiz with the show ‘La Guasa’, interpretation of romancero, chirigota and comparsa. The public appreciated that the lead singer of the group made a brief explanation of the meaning and roots of his repertoire in order to help better understand such a powerful cultural manifestation of the Carnival of Cádiz as the chirigotas. Union and integration of cultures like the town of Playa Blanca itself, which welcomes the Andalusian population and stands out for its multiculturalism. The group appreciated the dedication of the public, ending their performance at the foot of the square surrounded by the audience that did not stop applauding.
