Animals become the protagonists of the carnival program of Playa Blanca. The canine carnival consolidates its presence in the festival as "an awareness day, increasing year after year the participation of families", says the City Council of Yaiza in a note.
Neighbors can register their pets in a costume contest and share an afternoon of celebrations with other citizens.
The initiative of the City Council of Yaiza, through the Animal Welfare Area "complements different informative activities on the abandonment of animals", said the councilor Águeda Cedrés, which in the Canary Islands registers "very high" figures. So, these days seek to promote animal care and encourage neighbors to offer "an adoption home to the dogs we collect and care for in the Animal Shelter of Yaiza." The City Council points out that it has been achieved with the "invaluable" support of the Doggys del Sur protector.
Up to 18 pets participated this Thursday in Playa Blanca, with the dog Katty winning with the fantasy 'Treacherous Butterfly'.
The City Council assures that the Plaza del Carmen was full of color, laughter and applause motivated by the allegories to unicorn, Snow White, rockers, horse, shark and other costumes that paraded through the catwalk of the Carnival of Playa Blanca, where there were also several of the dogs that seek adoption home.
The organization of the costume contest gave prizes to the owners of the seven best-scored pets by the jury thanks to the collaboration of sponsoring commercial houses linked to the initiative.
Last January Playa Blanca had another day of animal welfare and responsible ownership with educational talks given by veterinarians and trainers guiding to know and reflect if we are able to offer and share our home with a pet.
