Andrés Acosta, charismatic mathematics teacher from Tías, has passed away at the age of 79 in the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He was the brother of Lanzarote journalist Agustín Acosta.
Andrés was born in Haría, but years later he went to live in the town of Tías to work as a teacher, where he started a family.
Don Andrés, as his first students remember him, arrived in Tías in the 1969/1970 school year. In primary school, and under those conditions, he knew how to instruct the numerous students per classroom. He taught them language, mathematics, and even how to play the timple. This is because he was a lover of the timple, an instrument he knew how to play with great skill. He was also a great fan of partridge hunting.
Andrés leaves behind his wife, Petra Calero, and two sons, Andrés and Alfredo. His other siblings were Juana, Carmela, and Rosalía Acosta.
