Aminatou Haidar acknowledges her extreme weakness after 30 days on hunger strike

"Very weak, very weak" were the only words Aminatou Haidar uttered in response to questions from the media during her brief exit from the cabin yesterday afternoon, when she was 30 days into her hunger strike.

Aminatou Haidar was only able to utter those four words "given her extreme weakness after a month since she began her protest against her illegal expulsion from El Aaiún and her irregular and involuntary entry into Lanzarote airport", according to sources from the activist's support platform.

As she completes 31 days of the hunger strike, the Aminatou Haidar Support Platform stated that "we have witnessed Haidar's gradual deterioration and suffering, but we have also been witnesses to the dignity and struggle for respect for Human Rights, as well as the courage and heroism of a woman who has managed to put two States in check: Morocco and Spain".

International support

The Platform emphasizes the global mobilization, with the participation of the UN, the EU and countries such as the United States, and the fact that there have been pronouncements on the violation of Human Rights by Morocco in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. "An unimaginable achievement when she started the hunger strike," explained Carmelo Ramírez.

"Until today," added Ramírez, "the two responsible governments have failed to put an effective solution on the table. All have been to pressure Haidar or poison public opinion and the only way to solve this situation is for her to return home, with her children."
