The recently founded neighborhood association, Vecinos de Tinasoria, is asking the Arrecife City Council to withdraw the keys from the president of the Tinasoria Socio-Cultural Center, Mariló de León, which were given to her by the mayor Cándido Reguera on the night of January 12. The reason they give on behalf of the association Pilar Camejo, spokesperson, Ainhoa Sánchez, secretary, and Rubén Serrano, head of the Youth area, is that "nobody in the neighborhood likes her".
"Without notifying us or the neighborhood, the keys were given to this woman, something we consider a treacherous stab in the back." The members of the association assure that the councilor for Neighborhoods, Lorenzo Lemaur, "as he is a friend of Mariló, not only did he not attend to us, but at the key handover ceremony we heard him say to a man: "If you get them off my back, I'll give you whatever you want".
Let the neighborhood choose the association that represents them
From Vecinos de Tinasoria, created just over a month and a half ago, they state that several letters have been sent to the City Council so that "the keys to the Center are given to us or, at least, a referendum is held in the neighborhood so that the residents can choose the association they want to represent them".
Right now, they have the option of sharing those keys and the premises, something they flatly refuse because "we don't want to work with her because we are not going to work for her to score points". They defend their work by assuring that "we have done more in a month and a half than she has in the years she has been there".
"We want what the neighborhood wants"
"We have organized a week of Christmas festivities, fixed sports courts, we have done a campaign to collect food and clothing... when she has done nothing and the festivities get worse every year." Furthermore, they are sure to have the approval and affection of their neighbors because "we want what the neighborhood wants, and the neighborhood is not happy and we are certain that they don't like her", they conclude.
