A new association has been born in Lanzarote with the aim of "promoting" culture and crafts. This is the Intercultural Association of Crafts of Lanzarote, AICAL, which has been created as a non-profit entity, "in order to establish a space for dialogue and action to promote culture and crafts as distinctive elements of the material and immaterial heritage of the island." "We understand that crafts need a new economic and institutional positioning, according to the unique value it represents for Lanzarote," they say from the association.

As they have explained, the entity, which is already registered in the Register of Associations of the Canary Islands, groups more than 50 artisans, "whose work shows the richness and variety of artisanal trades on the island where tradition is combined with design, innovation and contemporaneity."

From AICAL they have pointed out among their objectives the "articulation of a cultural community that creates opinion on the state of design, art and crafts"; the "creation of exchange and work networks"; "the commercialization of crafts, promoting their peculiarities and differentiated characteristics" and "the participation as an interlocutor before the administrations, public and private entities and society." The association plans to hold an official presentation event soon that will be open "to the general public, other social entities and representatives of the administrations committed to the culture and crafts of the island."
