One of the companies that submitted a bid for the operation of the hammock and umbrella service in Puerto del Carmen has filed a complaint with the Las Palmas Prosecutor's Office against the administrators of the awarded company, Jandía First Service on Beach, for breach of contract. Servicios Canarios Playa (Secapla) denounces that this company has not paid the full amount of the fee established in the tender specifications to the Tías City Council, according to the newspaper La Provincia this Tuesday.

This company, which had a conflict with the City Council after abandoning the beaches and leaving them without hammocks last year, is now requesting the eviction of the awarded company for this reason. In addition, it demands that the City Council re-tender the operation of the service and that Jandía First Service on Beach be subject to a sanctioning procedure "for incurring a serious offense", according to La Provincia.

On March 17, the Deputy Mayor of Tías, Jerónimo Robayna, stated that "at any moment" the company awarded the service "would have to leave the beaches if it does not pay". "It is a long procedure, because we want to do things right so that consequences are not created later," he said on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

Despite the problem with this company, Robayna assured that "the hammocks and umbrellas will remain in Puerto del Carmen", since they will remain as municipal property as provided for in the specifications. "We will have to make some personnel agreement to take them ourselves without charging, because we cannot charge because there is a new tender made," said the Deputy Mayor at that time.

Jandía Firts Servicie On Beach, which took over the service this summer, should have paid 600,000 euros to the City Council in November, but did not make the full payment. At the end of January, it had to deposit another 600,000 euros plus what it owed from November, but requested a postponement of payment. The legal services and Intervention did not allow this postponement and the City Council notified the company that it was initiating the contract termination procedure.

For its part, the complainant, Servicios Canarios Playa (Secapla, S.L.) had a strong conflict with the City Council approximately a year ago when it abandoned the beaches during Holy Week, leaving them without hammocks and umbrellas.
