Disabled people find that, in addition to architectural barriers, many citizens park their vehicles on sidewalks or in pedestrian walkways, hindering their mobility. Therefore, the Department of Social Services of the Arrecife City Council will launch the campaign "Be supportive; help us move freely".

Through this initiative, which has been agreed upon with the Associations of the Disabled, the aim is to raise awareness among drivers of the harm caused to many citizens by parking vehicles in inappropriate places.

"Initially, we are going to present this awareness campaign, which is what my area is responsible for. Afterwards, I promised the associations of the disabled that we would meet with the Councilor for Urban Planning to talk about the architectural barriers, which are many in Arrecife, and try to resolve this problem", says Emilia Perdomo, Councilor for the Area of Social Services of the Arrecife City Council.

This campaign includes a self-adhesive sticker, which can be placed on cars that impede pedestrian traffic for the affected citizen, with the following text: "You have deprived another citizen of their right to move freely and comfortably. Thank you for not doing it again".

In the presentation that will take place this Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the offices of the Department of Social Services of the City Council, members of the Associations of the Disabled will present their assessment of what it means to have a disability in a city like Arrecife.
