The feeling of Canarian identity in Lanzarote reaches a third of the population. According to the study of the Sociobarometer of the Canary Islands prepared by the UNED, a 36.7% of the 400 respondents on the island feel only Canarian or more Canarian than Spanish.
With the data collected between June 7 and July 7, 37.6% of Canarians feel this way.
The percentage of islanders who feel equally Canarian and Spanish is higher. Of the 3,195 people interviewed on all the islands, 56% consider themselves both Spanish and Canarian. This Spanish national sentiment has decreased by 8% compared to October 2022 and remains above June of that same year.
Less common are the cases in which the interviewees have pronounced themselves as more Spanish than Canarian or only Spanish. In the first case, only 3.6% of the participants determined to be more Iberian than islanders. While only 0.3% call themselves only Spanish.
On the other hand, 0.6% of those surveyed exclude themselves from these assumptions and define themselves as neither Spanish nor Canarian.
