The plenary session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote will approve this Friday the Organic Regulation by which the Island Environmental Evaluation Body of Lanzarote and La Graciosa is created and regulated, under the provisions of Law 4/2017, of July 13, of the Land and Protected Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, states that "among the specific purposes pursued with this regulation are the environmental assessment of plans, programs and projects of island scope determined by the legislation at any time, in addition to improving the protection of our environment and promoting sustainability in decision-making, thus ensuring adequate prevention of environmental impacts in both Lanzarote and La Graciosa."
Betancort states that this environmental instrument of general interest will allow us to have "greater speed and functionality when activating better protection of the environment, as our islands deserve."
In this sense, the Councilor for Territorial Planning and Territorial Policy, Jesús Machín, lamented that "Lanzarote and La Graciosa did not have, until now, this Environmental Evaluation Body to guarantee adequate prevention of possible environmental impacts that could occur, through a completely autonomous instrument for reasons of effectiveness, efficiency and agility."
It should be noted that this body is configured as complementary to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, of an administrative and collegiate nature, for the fulfillment of its specific purposes, composed of people who respond to criteria of autonomy, specialization and professionalism, adopting its decisions in a collegiate manner.
The members of the same will exercise their functions with independence, impartiality and objectivity, basing their actions on the principles of speed and efficiency, with full submission to the Law and the Right.
