Workers in the ambulance sector in the Canary Islands will begin an indefinite strike starting on May 17, having failed to reach an agreement with the Ministry of Health and the concessionary companies of this service at the meeting held this Friday at the Canarian Labor Tribunal.
In a statement sent by Comisiones Obreras, it is specified that the strike will be on Wednesdays in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and every Thursday in Las Palmas.
The union also reports that it is considering filing a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office for the "irregular use of public money" that, in its opinion, these companies make by not adhering to the specifications of the service concession, a matter that the companies deny.
However, CCOO emphasizes that there are "multiple complaints, court rulings, and minutes from the Labor Inspectorate that demonstrate the opposite," as well as the "deficiencies" offered by this essential service for citizens.
The Canarian Labor Tribunal reconvened the parties this Friday to find common ground to avoid the ambulance strike throughout the autonomous community.
The meeting was attended by the companies holding the service concession and a representation of Health Management of the Canary Islands, but not of the Canarian Health Service (SCS), from which the Federation of Services to the Citizenry of CCOO requested the rescue of the concession so that it is provided entirely by public administrations.
CCOO has criticized the "apathy and disinterest" of the Ministry of Health for the deficient manner in which this service is being provided on all the islands.
