Encounters a hammerhead shark and starts hitting it with a paddle

A man who was kayaking near the coast of Tazacorte, in La Palma, came across a hammerhead shark (Sphyrna mokarran). According to a video that went viral on social networks, the kayaker began hitting the animal with the boat's paddle.

The man, who began recording the encounter, shouted at the animal: "¡Cabrón, vete pa' allá, pa' casa el carajo!" (Bastard, go over there, go to hell!).

According to RTVC, José Juan Afonso is the Canary Islander who was kayaking when he came across the animal. "Normally" the sharks "go around a couple of times and leave, but this one was coming and going. On one occasion, it seemed like he wanted to bite half of the kayak, right where I was," he said on the public broadcaster.

Usually, sharks are not a risk to bathers and only attack when they feel truly threatened.
