A group of students from Lanzarote who were going to take the nautical qualification exam for recreational craft skipper and basic navigation skipper have lost the possibility of taking the exam after the flight they had planned for 7:00 AM this Saturday to Gran Canaria was delayed for several hours.

Óscar Fernández de Pinedo, president of the National Association of Nautical Schools, has reported that several students from the island had their exam scheduled for this Saturday and were going to travel to the neighboring island of Gran Canaria to take the exam. However, due to airline delays, they have not been able to arrive in time for the exam.

In fact, according to updated airline information, the flight scheduled for 7:00 AM is not expected to depart until 11:05 AM.

The exam was scheduled for 10:00 AM in Gran Canaria. This situation has already been reported on several occasions by the nautical schools of Lanzarote, who state that they could take the exam at the island's Fishing School, without having to travel just to take the exam. This obligation poses an added difficulty for students from Lanzarote, La Graciosa, and Fuerteventura.

"It is shameful that both students and teachers have to go to Gran Canaria," added de Pinedo, who pointed out that this situation is even more complicated for students from La Graciosa.

At the same time, de Pinedo indicated that on this occasion, the Vice-Ministry of Fisheries extended the deadline by only one hour, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. "These are people who have paid 700 euros for a training course," added the president of the National Association of Nautical Schools, who criticizes that by having to travel from island to island, they have lost the possibility of obtaining the qualification.
