At 9:00 PM last Friday, the inauguration ceremony of the San Juan Bautista festivities in Haría began. The night started with a change in the script, as due to meteorological problems, Benito Cabrera and Tomás Farriña could not fly to Lanzarote. However, the art and good music of Alexis Lemes and Adrián Niz managed to make it a magnificent night, with traditional songs like folías and isas, and others as well-known as Alfonsina y el mar.
After the performance, the proclamation was read by Hermelindo Navarro Cardero, who reviewed the years he lived in the Valley of the 10,000 palm trees, remembering, among others, Juan Santana, recently deceased and named Favorite Son of Haría. One of the anecdotes Hermelindo Navarro shared with the audience was that he and some friends went to count the palm trees in the Valley and there were not 10,000, but 9,864.
After this joke, the herald was recognized with the silver distinction accrediting him as Herald of the Patron Saint Festivities of San Juan Bautista 2026, which was presented to him by the mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba. Meanwhile, the First Deputy Mayor, Evelia García Fuentes, gave him a gold insignia from the Haría City Council, as a token of the municipality's gratitude and recognition of his career and connection with the town. To conclude, the third deputy mayor, Marcos Lemes Pérez, presented a bouquet of flowers to Josefa Díaz Hernández, wife of Hermelindo Navarro, as a gesture of affection and shared recognition.
