In the heart of Lanzarote's cultural scene, dance has been a language of overcoming and art for decades. This tradition, which began to gain momentum in the late 80s with pioneering institutions like the Antonio Dance School, today finds one of its greatest exponents in the figure of Tatiana Niz. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of her academy, MT Dance, we review a career that has made the Lanzarote dancer an essential pillar of the island's cultural fabric.
A life dedicated to excellence
From the age of three, Tatiana Niz showed an artistic restlessness that soon transformed into exceptional talent. At five years old, she was already accumulating awards at the V Autonomic Final of Retro Dance of the Canary Islands, marking the beginning of a dazzling competitive career. From 2005 onwards, Niz took her technical mastery—which ranges from waltz, tango, and pasodoble to rock, salsa, and cha-cha-cha—to international stages, competing in cities such as Madrid, Cantabria, and Torremolinos. In 2011, at just 12 years old, she reached the pinnacle by being crowned European Champion, a milestone that consolidated her name in the elite of dance.
Her charisma and technical skill opened the doors to national media, participating in high-audience formats such as Veo Veo by Teresa Rabal and Tú sí que vales by Telecinco, in addition to multiple appearances on Televisión Española and Televisión Canaria.
MT Dance: Ten years democratizing dance
In 2016, after a prolific competitive period, Tatiana Niz embarked on her most ambitious project: the founding of MT Dance. This year, 2026, the academy celebrates its tenth anniversary, consolidated as a reference space where innovation meets a profoundly human pedagogical philosophy.
"Dance is a universal language of overcoming," states Niz, whose management at MT Dance has been distinguished by personalized dedication, eliminating social and physical barriers so that dance is accessible to everyone. The school has evolved, integrating from the classical disciplines that formed its foundation to the most current urban trends.

Beyond the stages, Tatiana Niz's work stands out for her collaborative spirit. Far from individualistic competition, Niz works closely with other professionals and schools on the island, understanding dance as an exercise in unity.
