The Teguise City Council entered plot 216 of Costa Teguise this Tuesday, located on Avenida de Las Palmeras, to remove several substandard dwellings. These irregular constructions had been carried out by several people who have settled inside this concrete skeleton, an unfinished hotel that has stood for 21 years on the landscape of the coastal town.

As La Voz reported a few months ago, this construction is in a process of urban legalization to build a 500-bed hotel.

Several irregular constructions, made with wooden pallets and other materials, have been removed and several works carried out without a permit have been sealed off throughout the morning. Several agents from the Teguise Local Police and City Council workers, as well as private security personnel, have moved to the site.

In addition, the councilor for the Local Police of Teguise, Ginés González, explained to La Voz that an order has also been given to remove stockpiles of construction material to "prevent them from continuing to carry out illegal works." In the images received by this media outlet, trucks can be seen loaded with dozens of wooden pallets.

A sanction in progress for enclosure works

The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, had already announced a few days ago that the council had opened a sanctioning file for an urban offense against the people living in this concrete skeleton for "enclosure works," as they were building these wooden pallet walls. For the moment, the amount of the sanctions has not yet been disclosed.

Duque also announced that they would ask the company responsible for this unfinished skeleton to put security personnel on the plot and improve the fencing, which has fallen down in various areas. On several occasions, the PSOE of Teguise, the main opposition party, has demanded that the City Council take measures regarding the deficiencies in the closure of this fencing, where there have been several accidents.

This skeleton in the tourist town has become a housing option in the midst of a housing crisis, marked by a shortage of long-term rentals and ever-increasing prices. In fact, housing for sale in Costa Teguise has already reached its highest price in history, approaching 4,000 euros per square meter.

The situation of this skeleton had already awakened the complaints of several neighbors of the area, who publicly denounced security problems in the surroundings. Thus, several people demonstrated this past Friday and the attendees demanded police action on the plot.
