The Association for the Defense and against Animal Abuse Lanzarote (ADEMAL) has publicly exposed the situation in which a puppy of a Canarian Podenco was found this Wednesday on the island.

The animal was located by a member of the association on the side of a road on the island, barking and crying. It had been hit by a car and had an injury to one of its hind legs. The association's theory is that last Sunday they took her out hunting and she was run over. "The sad reality of hunting," the association added.

"Thanks to a colleague, a member of Ademal, we were able to pick up a Podenco puppy from the street, run over, and she was lying on the side of a road, where hundreds of cars pass every day and we don't know how long she had been lying there," Ademal says in a video on social media.

After that, they picked her up and took her to a clinic in Playa Honda. The dog has fractured both femurs and a dislocated hip, which prevented her from walking and moving from the place.

Ademal has denounced that "abandonments and run-overs like this are the consequences of the terrible control that is made of hunting dogs by the Cabildo", while it has warned that "so far this season" there are already "dozens of abandoned dogs" on the island.

The association has asked the island's Hunting Councilor, Samuel Martín, to "comply with the law" and "carry out the registration and control of hunting dogs once and for all."

In addition, they have asked the first island institution "to implement as an urgent and extraordinary measure the obligation to equip hunting dogs with GPS when they are taken out to hunt."
