National Police agents have arrested two young men, aged 17 and 19, in Arrecife, with no prior police records, as alleged perpetrators of a violent robbery. The arrested adult threatened an employee of a bazaar with a knife, so that she would hand over all the money from the cash register and 200 lottery tickets. The police investigation also determined his participation in four other robberies with violence, one of them committed on May 15 at the Jaysa fruit shop on Elguinaguaria street in the capital.
The events unfolded on May 16 after a complaint from a woman, an employee at a bazaar in the capital of the island, stating that a hooded individual entered the premises and, brandishing a knife, demanded that she hand over all the money from the cash register. Immediately afterwards, the individual took 200 lottery tickets and left the scene running.
Police investigators were able to determine that the aforementioned individual, in the company of a second man, ran to a shopping center in Arrecife, where they took a taxi that took them to the town of Puerto del Carmen.
After numerous police investigations, the agents were able to identify the two individuals, who were located and arrested at the family home of one of them, who turned out to be a minor of 17 years of age.
The events were brought to the attention of the Minors Section of the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Las Palmas, who ordered that he be placed at their disposal together with the corresponding police report.
Alleged perpetrator of four other robberies with violence
The police investigation also determined that the arrested adult had participated in three other robberies with violence perpetrated at gas stations in Arrecife between April 9 and 11, in addition to the one committed at the Jaysa fruit shop on Elguinaguaria street. Approximately 1,500 euros in cash were stolen in them.
In the case of the robbery at the fruit shop, the thief was masked and threatened the employee "with a broken bottle neck", as the owner of the establishment then stated and could be seen in the images from the security cameras to which La Voz had access.
The investigation remains open based on determining the possible participation of third parties in the investigated events. After the corresponding police report was prepared, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
