The Civil Guard in Lanzarote arrested two people last February 2024 as alleged author and co-author of a crime of professional intrusion, for practicing as a dentist in a dental clinic in Costa Teguise without having the degree approved in Spain. The detainees are between 36 and 54 years old.
As a result of citizen collaboration, the Civil Guard began the investigation in a well-known private clinic in the tourist town of Costa Teguise where, among others, the specialty of dentistry was practiced, carrying out the appropriate steps to clarify the facts, as well as the pertinent checks with the collegiate bodies in which the alleged dentist could be registered, and that in that case would grant her the power to practice as such in Spain.
Once it was verified that the detainee lacked the necessary qualifications or their approval to practice in national territory, claiming that a large majority of the patients treated were tourists of foreign origin and that she apparently had the approval of the clinic's management and therefore there was no problem in practicing said profession.
The Civil Guard of Costa Teguise, as a result of the investigations carried out, proceeded on February 27 and 29, 2024 to two arrests, the alleged dentist who was practicing illegally and the manager of the clinic who had given the approval to have a specialist without an approved degree in national territory.
In addition, the person in charge of the clinic's management, and alleged necessary co-author, is the figure in charge in the clinic, of supervising that the specialists comply with the regulations in force in the country, verifying that they are registered, as well as that they have the necessary qualifications to be able to practice in Spain, and that also the professionals who practice have the civil liability insurance required for this type of activities.
Therefore, the appropriate police proceedings were carried out and placed together with the detainees at the disposal of the Investigating Court number 4 acting as Duty Court of Arrecife.
