The works that are being carried out in Puerto del Carmen to build the La Perla shopping center have caused this Friday the collapse of an adjacent building unrelated to the works and a staircase that was like a dividing wall, as confirmed by the Councilor for Urban Planning of the Tías City Council, Ulpiano Calero.
"As a result of the works there has been a displacement of one side and the two have collapsed, the staircase that was a walkway and the adjacent construction that was supported on it", explained Calero, who after the collapse has moved to the area.
As explained by the mayor, the building that has collapsed "was not inhabited", but "was a warehouse". Regarding the staircase, which was a "municipal access" that crossed the site from one street to another, he pointed out that "it was closed to traffic because it is part of the rehabilitation".
"It is an affected area that was going to be demolished, but there was no forecast that it would collapse, although the ground is not homogeneous either and as a result there was a collapse", added Ulpiano Calero.
Together with the Councilor for Urban Planning, municipal technicians from the City Council have also traveled to the works to assess the extent" of the collapse and the possible impact on the adjacent building.
