Judge Ana Belén Montero, head of the Criminal Court 4 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has sentenced Pedro Alfonso Socorro García, better known as Ruth for his condition as a transvestite, to a year and a half in prison for three counts of serious injury due to recklessness for injecting silicone oil into several women between July 2001 and December 2002.

The ruling considers it proven that he did so "with absolute ignorance of the appropriate medical techniques, disregarding the highly detrimental consequences for the health of his action, without possessing any title or qualification that would enable him to do so" and "carried out acts of exclusive competence of specialized clinics in cosmetic surgery that require the direction of a medical professional, administering anesthesia and injecting silicone oil, a product that he bought in any pharmacy since its sale does not require a medical prescription and is intended, according to its technical data sheet, for industrial, cosmetic and pharmaceutical use as an antiflatulent orally, excluding parenteral or injectable use, to the clients of certain hairdressers".

These are the establishments 'Bastida Rot' on Presidente Alvear Street in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, whose owner Mónica Bastida, has been sentenced, like Ruth herself, to a fine of 540 euros for professional intrusion. Ruth also carried out these practices in the 'Bigudí' hairdressing salon on Perú Street in Arrecife, whose owner María Dolores Merino, has been sentenced to the same penalty as Bastida, as has María Dolores de León.

The ruling considers it proven that Ruth charged for her 'work' different amounts of money that she shared with the owners and managers of the aforementioned establishments. "The injections were placed directly in the area that she wanted to modify, even applying local anesthesia to the part of the body to be treated, thus making infiltrations in breasts, buttocks, lips and cheekbones according to the tastes and requirements of the clients to whom she assured that the treatment was harmless to health and its results highly effective without having to face the high prices that specialized beauty clinics provided for similar treatments, stating that she had learned the technique while working with a plastic surgeon in Barcelona and that he had injected himself with such product", explains the ruling against which an appeal can be filed.

"As a result of these acts, several of those infiltrated suffered injuries of varying severity", explains the ruling. To a woman named Juana, Ruth "injected liquid silicone into her eyelids in the 'Mariló Peluqueros' establishment and suffered injuries consisting of discreet deformity of the lower region of both eyelids, having required for her healing in addition to a first medical assistance treatment consisting of 'surgical excision' of papillomas of the lower eyelids, requiring for her healing a total of 30 days, none of which she was prevented from her usual occupations".

"Jasmina Elisa, who went to the 'Bastida Rot' hairdressing salon where Pedro Alfonso injected silicone oil into her breasts, suffering injuries consisting of multiple nodular masses in both breasts and that according to the forensic doctor's report they will require surgical treatment for their extraction and secondary reconstruction", continues the ruling. In addition, Concepción X received 'treatment' in her breasts in 'Mariló Peluqueros' and "suffered injuries consisting of functional alterations, deformities and secondary scars. She underwent repeated surgical interventions with the aim of solving aesthetic medical problems, recording up to four surgical interventions on January 30, 2003, March 2003, October 2003 and March 10, 2004, being hospitalized for 15 days, needing 454 days for the stabilization of her injuries all of which she was prevented from her usual occupations, leaving her with a limitation of abduction (elevation of both arms) which can exceed 90 degrees and the loss of both mammary glands with very significant aesthetic damage".

To Carmen X, also in 'Mariló Peluqueros', Ruth "injected liquid silicone into her breasts, and suffered injuries that required surgical intervention. She also required a first cure, multiple surgical interventions, six interventions by specialists in plastic surgery, 15 days of hospitalization, 360 days of healing, being prevented from working 100 percent 85 days and 50 percent 180 days, leaving her with limitations to the elevation of the right arm, alteration in the sensitivity of both hands, amputation of both mammary nipples and as a deformity, mammary asymmetry, multiple citratices, absence of mammary areolas, aesthetically evaluable as important".
