"There was no trace of anything other than the bundle in the water," says the councilor of the Local Police of Yaiza, Miguel Ángel Cáceres. Therefore, in principle, the hypothesis that the merchandise was traveling aboard a zodiac that broke down in the middle of the crossing is discarded. In other cases, such as the one registered last April on the same Janubio beach, the agents found a zodiac stranded on a nearby beach, but "in this case, no boat has been located, for the moment," says the councilor.
One of the main hypotheses contemplated by the security forces is that the package "was at the bottom of the sea or in the rocks and has come loose," declares Miguel Ángel Cáceres. The wind could be the culprit that the bundle reached the shore.
The councilor also does not rule out that the merchandise was traveling aboard a ship, with more narcotic substances, and that due to certain circumstances, it fell into the sea. In any case, the operation is still open, in charge of the Civil Guard, and they do not rule out the appearance of new packages.
Citizen collaboration
The bundle was found by a neighbor on Tuesday afternoon, who notified the agents of the Local Police of Yaiza. For this reason, Miguel Ángel Cáceres appreciates the collaboration of the citizens and assures that "he will continue working to try to eradicate one of the greatest scourges of today's society such as drugs."
The package of hashish found this Tuesday weighed 29 kilos and 300 grams. The eleven bundles found last April reached 200 kilograms.
