A resident of the town of Famara alerted around 7 in the morning this Monday of the presence of a Gervais' beaked whale corpse, a species of the dolphin family, stranded in the area known as "the pool", a small cove near La Caleta beach.

Local Police officers arrived at the scene, followed by members of Seprona, as well as the president of the Society for the Study of Cetaceans, Vidal Martín. There they found an adult specimen of "about five meters long, who died approximately 24 hours ago, according to initial estimates," as reported by sources from the Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard.

The Canary Archipelago is one of the areas with the highest presence of this type of cetacean, both in quantity and variety, since up to 28 different species of this type of dolphin have been counted on the islands.
