The Special Explosives Deactivation Group (GEDEX) of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria and Citizen Security units of the Costa Teguise Company have carried out this Tuesday an explosive device deactivation exercise, this time an alleged car bomb in Montaña Bermeja.
The exercise began at 08:30 hours, when a warning was received at the Costa Teguise Civil Guard barracks of an alert for an alleged car bomb on the outskirts of Arrecife. Once alerted, a fire truck was transferred and proceeded to cordon off the area. Subsequently, the TEDAX team also moved to the site and took charge of the alleged incident.
According to the Benemérita, "this type of joint action between emergency services is important because the action procedures are established, with the installation of an Advanced Command Post from which all decisions have been made in the exercise of their own powers and how to carry out a perfect coordination of the incident".
Finally, the GEDEX has managed "with great skill" to dismantle the explosive device, which was inside the trunk.
The Security and Emergency Consortium participated in the exercise with the contribution of a heavy urban pump (BUP), a rapid intervention vehicle (VIR) and a specialist armorer from the Lanzarote military aerodrome.
