The artifact "shaped like a projectile" found in the waters of Papagayo on Sunday and which forced the Civil Guard to evacuate a beach to proceed with its controlled detonation was a device to prospect and search for oil and gas, as confirmed by the Benemérita.

It should be remembered that Agents of the Special Explosives Deactivation Group of the Civil Guard (GEDEX) traveled on Sunday afternoon to the beach of the Papagayo beach bar, after being alerted by a local police officer of Yaiza off duty of the discovery around 7:45 p.m. The fact that the artifact was torpedo-shaped and had the word 'Warning' inscribed on it, containing CO2, raised the alarm, so as a preventive measure, the GEDEX agents evacuated the beach and proceeded to its controlled detonation.

Already this Monday, the Civil Guard pointed out that everything indicated that it was not any ammunition, but some maritime use device, although the body was making the pertinent arrangements with Maritime Rescue and Maritime Captaincy to check what it was, now confirming that it was a device for the search for oil and gas.
