According to a note released by the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands, the detained agents convinced travelers of different nationalities, but especially Moroccans, Koreans and from Arab countries and who, therefore, did not understand the Spanish language, that in order to speed up customs procedures regarding baggage control or currency declaration for introduction into Spain, it was necessary for them to provide amounts of money.

The accusation against the detained civil guards is the continuous performance of activities that could constitute crimes of bribery and coercion and also of money laundering, document forgery, theft and omission of the duty to prosecute crimes, the official statement said.

The operation, endorsed by the investigating court number 1 of Telde, was organized by the Civil Guard itself, which set up a device in order to locate the allegedly corrupt agents. For this, cameras installed at the airport were used in which the supposedly criminal images were recorded.
