A total of six containers have burned during the early hours of Wednesday to Thursday in the municipality of Arrecife. Firefighters from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium believe that it could have been the same person who set fire to these garbage deposits.
The fires mainly affected waste containers on the road between Arrecife and San Bartolomé and on Calle Alonso Quesada, in the capital of Lanzarote. In Calle Tanganillo in Arrecife, the flames also caused damage to a paper container.
The manager of the Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, has pointed out that "obviously the containers do not catch fire for no reason", and even less during an early morning in which it has rained in Lanzarote. Precisely the rain could help prevent the fire from spreading and not affecting any vehicle or facade of a house.
The neighbors were the ones who raised the alarm and the firefighters had to go out three times during the same morning to put out the flames in the containers.
