A man of about 36 years old was surprised last October by Seprona agents of the Civil Guard when he was returning from fishing without authorization to do so. In total, about 30 kilos of fish were found in the boat, which were destroyed. In addition, the agents immobilized the boat and the affected party will not be able to recover it if he does not deposit a bond, for the amount of the fine he could face.
As sources from the Civil Guard have confirmed to La Voz, this is not the first time that this person has faced a sanctioning file. In fact, he already has 20 administrative infractions behind him for similar events. On this occasion, it was citizen collaboration that allowed him to be surprised when he was returning with his illegal catches.
It was a neighbor who alerted the agents that a man with a boat was engaged in illegal fishing in the area between Las Caletas and Los Ancones. At that moment, Seprona began a work of monitoring and surveillance, which allowed him to be located when he arrived at the coast with the boat full of fish. Now, since it is not fishing on the coast, but out at sea, the fine must be processed by the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands.
Specifically, he is accused of an infraction against article 70 of the Canary Islands Fisheries Law, for "the professional exercise of fishing or shellfish activity, without having the corresponding authorization." According to the Civil Guard, the fines can range from 300 to 60,000 euros.
In addition, Seprona is keeping the investigation open, as it believes that this poacher used pots to achieve his catches, so they now hope to find these passive fishing nets that he would have thrown into the sea.
