The Government of the Canary Islands has decreed a pre-alert for swell throughout the Archipelago. This was announced in a statement published this Friday.

Specifically, in Lanzarote, the north and west coasts of the island will be primarily affected

Based on the forecast provided by the State Meteorological Agency and other sources consulted by the regional government, it has been decided to extend the pre-alert to all the Islands, although the warnings were initially planned for La Palma and El Hierro.

The forecast indicates that the largest waves will reach the north and west of La Palma and El Hierro, but will also affect the coasts of La Gomera and the north of Tenerife.

In this regard, the Government of the Canary Islands is intensifying protection measures with outreach actions to prevent and avoid these drowning deaths.

It is advisable to postpone nautical or sports activities and not to swim on remote or unguarded beaches, and if there is any unusual swell, do not stay near the sea, or approach it, even if it suddenly calms down. It is recommended to avoid walking along the coast and not to drive vehicles on roads near the beach line.
