Bathing was prohibited due to the rupture of an underwater emissary that discharged sewage about 50 meters from the coast, the Teguise City Council reported.

The beaches of Bastián and El Ancla in Costa Teguise have been reopened for swimming after seven days of closure. This decision was carried out by the Teguise City Council after carrying out the respective sanitary inspections in this bathing water area after the spills detected last Wednesday, January 3. After the results obtained in the sanitary inspection report of the bathing water area, the result obtained is that it is "suitable for bathing", the council has highlighted.

The Teguise City Council acted immediately after learning of the spill, to identify the source, immediately prohibiting bathing in both areas and undertaking the corresponding corrective actions.

The Councilor for Beaches, Rita Hernández, has stated that, "once the respective tests have been requested and with the favorable results, it has been possible to solve the situation and guarantee the safety of bathers on both beaches."

The Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Eugenio Robayna, affirms that the "parameters determined do not exceed the limits established in the applicable regulations, so the area is considered suitable for bathing."

Once the councilor has been informed and having received the inspection report, the beaches have been fully opened this Tuesday. The mayor, Olivia Duque, for her part, highlights the importance of the "immediate action of the municipal media to guarantee the safety and quality of bathing on our beaches."
