The Councilor for Security and Emergencies of the Teguise City Council, Eugenio Robayna, reported this Wednesday the closure of the Bastián and El Ancla beaches, both in Costa Teguise, due to the rupture of an underwater emissary that has spilled sewage about 50 meters from the coast
As the head of the area has told La Voz, it has been decided to close these two beaches to bathing to prevent possible damage to the health of bathers. Both tourists and residents should stay away from this coast at least until the complete analyses are completed on Friday.
This spill was caused by the rupture of the underwater emissary located in the vicinity of Playa Bastián. At 12:30 the councilor was notified and the closure of the beach was immediately decreed. At that time, "beach lifeguards, hammock operators, the City Council area team, we have acted alerted by Canal Gestión and Public Health", Robayna indicated.
The cause of the rupture is due to the wipes, diapers and tissues that are thrown into the toilet, according to the Councilor for Security and Emergencies. Although the pipe has already been repaired, the spill remains in the sea and, depending on the marine currents, it will approach the shore or not.
