The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has forced a company to dispose of 9,000 kilos of dogfish "not suitable for human consumption" that it had stored in a premises in Altavista that closed to the public some time ago, after carrying out an inspection of it following complaints from residents.

According to what has been transferred from the Ministry of Health, it was on Monday when the residents filed complaints about the "strong bad smell" coming from the premises, located on Chafaris street in Arrecife. In response, from the Health area of Lanzarote, "the owner of the company was contacted, who reported that there were 9,000 kilos of dogfish stored there and that they were spoiled", according to what has been transferred from the Canarian Government.
Already on Tuesday, a Health inspector inspected the facility and declared the merchandise "not suitable for human consumption", ordering the 9,000 kilos of dogfish to be eliminated. In addition, the management of the Health area of Lanzarote contacted the Department of Health of the Arrecife City Council and the Local Police so that they could communicate to the residents the measures to be taken given the impact of the strong smell.

After that, this Wednesday the dogfish has been removed by a waste management company, a task that has had the support of the Local Police and that has extended from 7:30 to 11:30 hours. According to what has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health, the company could face a fine, although this will have to be determined by the Health area of Lanzarote based on the inspection report.
