A 47-year-old man was fined this Tuesday for fishing 4 and a half kilos of octopus on El Reducto beach. He was caught red-handed while leaving the beach with the mollusks, as La Voz has witnessed.
According to the man, who resides in La Santa, to the newspaper, he is "very indignant." "I went to fish a couple of octopuses to eat," he revealed. Apparently, the man was not very happy with the police action, "they arrived, confiscated everything and, on top of that, fined me," he stressed.
As he pointed out, it is a practice he usually carries out. "I usually do underwater fishing." "I'm angry, I've been in the water for two hours and they've taken away my day's work," he says indignantly.

At the time, he reproached the Civil Guard for having seized the octopuses. "Nothing can be done anymore, one thing is the law and another is the licentiousness," he said angrily.
Two workers from the Fisheries Inspection also went to the place, who weighed the octopuses and stored them to transfer them to the NGO Calor y cafe de Sor-Ana, in Arrecife.
According to article 76 of Law 17/2003, of April 10, on fishing in the Canary Islands, in the case of serious infractions, fines will be imposed with sanctions of between 301 to 60,000 euros.
