A couple found eight puppies inside a garbage container in Arrecife on Monday night. The animals, according to what they told La Voz, were inside a bag "about to die of suffocation."
It was around 11:30 p.m. when the woman heard some whimpers. "When we opened the window and realized that the sound was coming from the garbage container, we went out to check what it was and found a bag with eight puppies inside," her husband told La Voz, who points out that the animals had probably been born that same day. The finding, he explains, occurred in the containers located on the corner of Colombia and Teruel streets, where there is a small park.
According to this man, the Local Police were notified, but "they couldn't do anything until 7 in the morning," when they would pick them up to take them to the Sara animal shelter, so a neighbor took them to her house. This citizen thanks this woman for taking care of them, as well as "the gentleman (and his wife and son), who literally got into the container to take out the bag" in which the dogs were found.
At 11 a.m. this Tuesday, the animals were already in Sara, where they were being given warmth and food. The dogs are in apparent good health, although the shelter points out that, being newborns, it will be necessary to see how they evolve. Sara has also condemned the events and has emphasized the importance of sterilization, criticizing that there are people who consider it unnatural, but "then consider it natural to throw dogs into a container."
