The Local Police of Arrecife has located cosmetic products with substances considered carcinogenic in six establishments in the city, as part of inspection tasks in response to an alert from the European Union.

As detailed this Thursday by the Arrecife capital's council in a statement, these inspections are due to an alert received through the RAPEX system - EU Rapid Alert System for dangerous non-food products - for certain perfumes that could be marketed in stores in the city and that contained Lilial, an element considered carcinogenic by health authorities.

Since March 1, 2022, cosmetic products containing Lilial can no longer be marketed, so those cosmetics that contain it must be withdrawn, the Arrecife City Council detailed.

It is up to manufacturers and responsible persons to take all appropriate measures to ensure compliance with these provisions, including informing their distributors and organizing the withdrawal of non-compliant products from the market, if this has not already been done.

In order to guarantee the health of people, agents of the Local Police of Arrecife have carried out a series of inspections in establishments in the municipality, mainly establishments with products originating from the East, verifying that in six of them perfumes containing said component in the Prady and Yesensys brands were still on sale, mainly, although they have also been located in other brands in a minority way.

Once the inspections were carried out, the facts were brought to the attention of the Pharmaceutical Regulation Service of the Government of the Canary Islands, in order to proceed with the immediate withdrawal of the affected products that were still on sale.
