The Civil Guard has warned of the increase in scams in the province of Las Palmas through the Bizum application, so it has asked to exercise extreme caution with this type of operation. The warning is in addition to the one already given in October by the National Police, but since then it would have continued to increase.
As they explain, the victims are sellers of articles through the Internet, who use this payment method. Cybercriminals contact them pretending to be interested in the product and after negotiating an amount, they agree to make the payment through Bizum. However, instead of sending the payment, what they send is a request for money to the seller, which is another option that this application has. "If he does not notice by observing the message received well and clicks on the accept option, he will be paying the amount they negotiated to his alleged buyer," details the Civil Guard.
In this regard, remember that Bizum never asks to accept a money income, since in those cases it only informs that the transfer has been received.
To avoid this type of scams, the Benemérita has again made several security tips public:
1. If in the process of negotiating the article we want to sell the buyer asks us for information, avoid giving personal data such as ID, name, email or phone number or other personal data to the alleged buyer, since that information for cybercriminals is very important to continue the chain of scams.
2. If we are aware that we have been victims of this fact, contact our bank of the alleged transaction and report what happened.
3. If we have been victims of the alleged scam, collect as much information as possible, such as conversations, telephone number of the transaction sent, messages, data of the person if they appear, so that the person harmed by this method, report what happened to the Civil Guard or other Security Forces.
4. If in the sale it is agreed to make the payment by the Bizum method between both parties, you must make sure of the content of the message we receive, to avoid being asked for money instead of receiving it.
5. In the Bizum platform, which operates with the different banking entities, it is not possible to reverse the operation once it has been carried out, so before accepting it, it is necessary to verify the process.
