The Civil Guard of San Bartolomé charged on the 25th a person for an alleged crime of simulation, by filing a false complaint for the theft of a mobile phone. The complaint was filed by R.P.S., a resident of the municipality of Arrecife, at the facilities of the National Police Corps (CNP) of the capital of Lanzarote.
The investigation began after receiving the complaint from R.P.S. filed at this police station. In it, he stated that on the 24th of this month "unknown persons had stolen his mobile phone", which was inside his vehicle, in the town of Playa Honda, in the municipality of San Bartolomé.
Civil Guard agents, being the security force responsible for reasons of territorial competence, initiated a series of investigations to clarify the facts. Thus, in addition to finding out that R.P.S. had lost his mobile phone, they were also able to verify that he had communicated this complaint to his insurance company, which he had filed at the National Police Corps facilities, in order to acquire a new mobile phone.
Therefore, the agents charged R.P.S. with a crime of simulating a crime. He himself acknowledged the facts at the Civil Guard facilities, according to a statement from this body. The accused person, together with the proceedings arising from the investigation, have been made available to the corresponding Duty Court in Arrecife.
Seven defendants in three months in San Bartolomé
The Civil Guard has recalled the criminal responsibility that can be incurred in case of filing a false complaint, or pretending to be a victim of a crime or misdemeanor, even in the case of filing the complaint with another police force different from the competent one. In addition, it has reported that in the last quarter more than 7 people have been charged with this type of crime, only in the municipality of San Bartolomé.
