The Civil Guard of Tías identified on the 12th a person with the initials K.S.S., of foreign nationality and 32 years of age, as the alleged perpetrator of a fraud crime. The investigated, an employee of a computer and telephone products store, allegedly charged a 70-year-old client's bank card with an expense of 250 euros without their consent or knowledge.
The investigation began as a result of the complaint of the victim, a tourist of foreign nationality who had paid the amount of 113 euros in a business in a shopping center in the town of Puerto del Carmen, but who once back in his country observed that in the aforementioned place they had charged him another payment of 250 euros without his consent or knowledge.
According to the Civil Guard, although foreigners who believe they have been affected by a crime in national territory can go to the consular authorities of Spain in their respective countries, the victim took advantage of another vacation period on the island to report the fraud at the Civil Guard barracks in Tías.
After the corresponding investigations by the Civil Guard agents, sufficient evidence was collected that pointed to the commission of said crime by K.S.S., who allegedly swiped the card twice through the POS terminal claiming there was an error, for which he was investigated for the aforementioned fraud on the 12th and has been made available to the corresponding Court, on guard duty, of Arrecife.
Security tips regarding credit cards
The Civil Guard provides a series of security tips regarding credit cards, recommending signing the card in the space provided for it on the back and never writing down the PIN, but memorizing it.
Likewise, it is advised to immediately report the loss or theft of the card, and communicate it as soon as possible to the corresponding financial institution for cancellation, as well as always verify the receipts or invoices of the purchases made.
Similarly, it is recommended not to lend the card to anyone and always be present when it is handled when making a purchase.
