Judge José de la Mata has asked the Navy to identify the crew members of the boats that rammed Greenpeace boats in 2014 in waters near the Canary Islands, who were staging a protest against oil drilling, to question them as defendants. This was published by the newspaper La Provincia this Monday.

According to La Provincia, the magistrate of the National Court has issued an official letter requesting the Navy to communicate their names, with the intention of taking their statement within the case opened as a result of the incidents that occurred on November 15, 2014, in which a 24-year-old Italian activist was seriously injured.

The judge accuses them of a crime of reckless injury, although the Italian activist is also accused in this case - in this case for refusing to obey orders when a crime of piracy is being pursued - since after the altercation both the Navy and the environmental organization filed separate complaints in the National Court.

The incidents occurred near the coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura as part of a peaceful protest that Greenpeace activists carried out together with a drilling ship hired by the oil company Repsol.
