Agents of the Local Police of Arrecife proceeded in the early morning of May 4 to arrest M.S.A., 28 years old and a native of Morocco, accused of a crime against public health and a crime against road safety. As explained in the police report, the now detained "tried to escape and threw a package containing almost half a kilogram of hashish through the window of the car in which he intended to flee."
The events began when agents assigned to Group 4 proceeded to stop the driver of a vehicle, after observing that he had run two red lights. However, according to the police report, he "ignored the signals and fled at high speed", so the agents proceeded to notify the rest of the patrols in order to intercept the vehicle.
At that moment, a chase began through various streets of Arrecife and along the LZ-3 ring road, with the driver carrying out "various reckless maneuvers to escape." In addition, the agents who were following him were able to observe how he got rid of a package by throwing it through the vehicle's window.
In a coordinated manner, the agents of Group 4 and the Citizen Security and Intervention Unit (U.S.C.I), both of the Local Police of Arrecife, were closing the various exits of the city, until the operation managed to cut off his path at the roundabout exit towards Tahíche. Immediately afterwards, the driver was arrested, and a total of 545 euros was seized from him.
Once the package that the detainee had thrown through the window was located, it was found to contain five tablets of hashish with a total weight of 487 grams. The detainee, together with the seized drugs and money, was placed at the disposal of the Arrecife Court of Guard and Instruction.
