A 76-year-old man had to be transferred this Wednesday to the Molina Orosa Hospital after suffering a fall on the public road in Puerto de Puerto del Carmen, on the access stairs to a shopping center.
“It's a disgrace how that staircase has been for months. Not even in the third world do these things happen,” denounced a witness to the event, who claims that the staircase had been without a railing for a long time.
“The man fell headfirst from a height of almost two meters and could have been killed,” warns this neighbor, who recorded a video to show the place where the accident occurred.
From the Coordinating Center for Security and Emergencies 112, they have confirmed to La Voz that the man, a foreign tourist, had to be referred to the Hospital by ambulance, with a mild head injury. “He lost a lot of blood from his head and mouth,” says the witness, who was the one who called the ambulance.
The incident took place at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Los Pocillos area, at the entrance to the Jameos shopping center. After the accident, a tape was placed to block the passage and, according to this neighbor, the City Council sent workers the next day to repair the staircase, where they were still working this Friday.
In this regard, he regrets that “a misfortune” had to happen for the Council to act and considers that it should be “denounced” for having kept it in that state.
